Focus and Scope

The International Journal of Dental Research and Technology (IJDRT) publishes original scientific articles, reviews, and case reports that contribute to the advancement of dentistry and dental technology. The journal welcomes submissions encompassing both general dentistry and specialized advanced dental technology, including but not limited to:

  • Digital dentistry and computer-aided design/manufacture (CAD/CAM)
  • Dental materials science and nanotechnology
  • Implantology and regenerative dentistry
  • Artificial intelligence and imaging systems in dental diagnostics
  • Preventive, restorative, and prosthodontic dentistry
  • Oral and maxillofacial research

The journal encourages research that bridges the gap between clinical application and technological innovation, promoting scientific dialogue among clinicians, researchers, and industry experts.

Section Policies

The International Journal of Dental Research and Technology (IJDRT) features several distinct sections, each with specific submission criteria and peer review standards:

  • Original Research Articles: Reports of novel investigations, experimental studies, and clinical trials.
  • Review Articles: Comprehensive, evidence-based analyses that summarise current knowledge and propose future research directions.
  • Case Reports: Well-documented clinical cases highlighting unique observations, techniques, or outcomes of clinical relevance.

Publication Frequency

The International Journal of Dental Research and Technology (IJDRT) is published biannually, with issues released in March and September.

Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to the International Journal of Dental Research and Technology (IJDRT) undergo a double-blind peer review process primarily to minimize bias and ensure that manuscripts are evaluated solely on the rigor and merit of the research/report.

Desk Review (1-5 days)

  • Scope alignment
  • Formatting/author guidelines
  • Originality/plagiarism
  • Completeness
  • Basic scientific merit

Editorial Assessment (5-10 days)

  • Scientific significance
  • Methodological soundness
  • Clarity and structure
  • Ethical compliance

Peer Review (4-6 weeks)

  • Technical soundness
  • Data and conclusions
  • Structure and presentation
  • Reviewer recommendation

Reviewer Criteria

Novelty and Relevance

Does the study address a significant gap in clinical dentistry, dental technology, or oral health in general?

Methodological Validity

Are the clinical trials or laboratory procedures reproducible?

Statistical Appropriateness

Were the statistical analyses chosen and executed correctly to validate the clinical or biological findings?

Ethical Standards

Does the study provide evidence of informed consent, Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval, or animal welfare compliance, particularly in clinical and histology studies?

Clinical or Practical Significance

Do the conclusions strictly align with the results presented, and are the clinical implications clear?

Peer Review Decision

Accept without revision

The manuscript is suitable for publication in its current form.

Accept with minor revision

The manuscript is sound and requires only small corrections or clarifications.

Major revision required

The manuscript needs substantial improvement or clarification before further consideration

Reject but encourage resubmission

The research has potential but requires extensive redevelopment.

Reject

The manuscript does not meet the scientific, ethical, or editorial standards of International Journal of Dental Research and Technology (IJDRT).

*All recommendations accompanied by reasoned and constructive remarks supporting the decision.

 Revision Timeline and Process

  • 2 weeks for minor revisions, 6 weeks for major revisions, maximum 2 rounds of revisions
  • Re-review process will be conducted by the initial reviewers

Revision and Final Decision-making Process

  • Based on reviewers’ recommendations, the Editor-in-Chief makes one of the following decisions: accept, minor revision, major revision, resubmission, or rejection.
  • Revised manuscripts are re-reviewed to confirm that the authors have addressed all concerns appropriately.
  • The final decision rests with the Editorial Board, ensuring a transparent and accountable publication process.

Appeals Application

  • Submit a formal letter: The corresponding author sends a point-by-point rebuttal directly to the Editor-in-Chief, within 2 to 4 weeks of the rejection decision
  • Editorial review: The editor evaluates the appeal, in consultation with the handling editor, an editorial board member, or by sending it to a new independent reviewer
  • Outcomes: The journal will either uphold the original rejection, invite a newly revised manuscript, or send the paper for a new round of peer review

Valid Grounds for an Appeal

Invalid Grounds for an Appeal

Procedural errors (evidence that the peer-review process was mishandled or biased)

Subjective judgement calls (insignificantly disagreeing with an editor’s decision)

Factual misunderstandings (proof that a reviewer fundamentally misread the data or made technical mistakes)

Complaining about tone (subjective feelings that a reviewer was despotic without pointing to objective factual errors)

New evidence (availability of critical new data that directly addresses the reviewers’ main concern)

Policy of Screening for Plagiarism

International Journal of Dental Research and Technology (IJDRT) enforces a strict anti-plagiarism policy to maintain academic honesty. All submissions are screened using Turnitin software before the review process begins. Manuscripts found to contain substantial overlap with previously published work, whether by identical text, data duplication, or unattributed paraphrasing, will be returned to the authors for clarification or rejected outright. Cases of confirmed plagiarism are handled in accordance with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines. To avoid these forms of plagiarism, authors are encouraged to:

  • Cite all relevant research and publications mentioned in the manuscript
  • Cite all verbatim language, including the author’s previous work (verbatim text is permitted in the Materials and Methods section, provided by appropriate citation)
  • Cite all paraphrased text and ideas

Maximum similarity rate permitted: 25%
