Focus and Scope

I. THEME

Calathu: Jurnal Ilmu Komunikasi opens opportunities for researchers to write research papers in the scope of communication science, topics are not limited and varied, ranging from media and cultural studies, advertising, broadcasting, journalism, public relations, integrated marketing communications, political economy of communication, ethics and philosophy of communication, media literacy, political communication, tourism communication, cross-cultural communication, public policy communication, visual communication, interpersonal and organizational communication, as well as audience studies. The manusript is expected to follow the establishment of communication science and be able to encourage the growth of knowledge in the scientific field.

II. GENERAL REQUIREMENT

1. Submitted scripts are original works of research results and have novelty, do not contain plagiarism, and the scripts have not been published before or are not in the process of being published in other publications.
2. Researchers are required to check the plagiarism of the script that has been written with a maximum limit of 20% and fill in the Author's Declaration of Manuscript Originality; if it exceeds the limit, the script will be returned for revision or rejection.
3. The language used is English, researchers are encouraged to have done a proof-reading process.
4. Scripts are typed in A4 paper format, Calibri font size 11 pts, 1.15 spacing, with 4 cm left-top margin and 3 cm bottom right, page numbers are placed in the lower right corner, and the length of the text is 3000-5000 words.

III. FORMAT AND CONDITION

1. The manuscript must contain these items in consecutive order: Title, Authors Name, Name of Institutions, Corresponding Email Address, Abstract & keywords, Introduction,  Research Method, Results and Discussion, Conclusion, and References.
2. The title is not more than 10 words. The title is written in centered format, in Times New Roman 16 pts font.
3. The author's name written without an academic degree, written in bold in Calibri 12 pts. If there is more than one author with different affiliations, please add a superscript number after each author's name corresponding to their respective affiliation. Affiliations should include the institution name, city, and country. The email address of the corresponding author should also be provided. The corresponding author should be indicated by an asterisk (*) placed after their name.
4. Abstracts are written in English, each abstract containing 100-300 words, followed by 3-5 keywords. The abstract consists of background, research problem, the purpose and method of research, also the findings.
5. The introduction should be reorganized to include the following elements: (1) a general background of the study presented in one paragraph; (2) a state-of-the-art section consisting of a review of previous studies (one to two paragraphs) to justify and strengthen the novelty, significance, scientific contribution, and originality of the research; (3) a clear and explicit gap analysis or statement of research gaps that distinguishes the present study from previous studies before presenting the research objectives; and (4) a concise and clearly stated research objective. Avoid introducing the objective with a generic statement such as “Based on the background above, the objective of this study is…”. The Introduction should be written as continuous paragraphs without subheadings and should comprise approximately 25% of the total length of the manuscript. The text should be formatted in Calibri 11 pt with 1.15 line spacing.

6. The Research Methods should consist of at least four paragraphs covering the following aspects: (1) the research method employed, supported by references from primary methodological books published internationally; (2) the rationale for selecting the method; (3) the research subjects or targets, including relevant characteristics; and (4) the research instruments and data analysis procedures  as well as data validity and reliability. The length of this section should account for approximately 20% of the total manuscript. Authors should organize the Methodology section without dividing it into sub-sections. The Methodology section should be written in Calibri 11 pt with 1.15 line spacing.

7. The Results and Discussions present the research findings obtained from the data analysis and provide an explanation of the discussion. The Results section should present processed data (rather than raw data) and display them in the form of tables or figures with clear resolution and fonts consistent with the journal’s style. Each table or figure should be properly referred to and discussed within the text, along with the presentation of the research findings. References to tables or figures should not use positional terms (e.g., “below,” “above,” “as follows,” etc.), but should instead directly refer to the relevant table or figure number. The discussion should be presented analytically and systematically, with arguments expressed logically and critically. The discussion must explain the relationship between the findings and the underlying concepts and/or hypotheses. The authors should also discuss whether the results are consistent with or contradict previous studies. The discussion should be supported by citations from relevant comparative studies.
   This results and discussion section should comprise approximately 45% of the total manuscript. The Results and Discussion section may be organized into sub-sections based on the main points of discussion. The text should be written in Calibri 11 pt with 1.15 line spacing.

8. The Conclusion should focus on addressing the research problems and highlighting new findings based on the available evidence and analysis, along with relevant implications and recommendations. It should be written in paragraph form rather than as itemized points or numbered lists. Statistical indices should not be included in the conclusion section. The length of the Conclusion should account for approximately 10% of the total manuscript. The Conclusion should be written in paragraph form without sub-sections, using Calibri 11 pt with 1.15 line spacing.

9. The manuscript must cite at least 15 references, all of which should have been published within the last 10 years. At least 80% of the references must be sourced from international peer-reviewed scientific journals. The reference list should include all sources used in the manuscript and should be arranged alphabetically without categorizing the types of sources. The references must include the corresponding DOI or a valid URL to the article. Use the APA 7th Edition format and reference management tools such as Mendeley, Zotero, EndNote, or similar software to ensure that all sources are properly cited.

IV. PEER REVIEW PROCESS

1. Plagiarism is a threat to scholarly publishing in general and to Calathu: Jurnal Ilmu Komunikasi in particular. The originality of the submitted work can be assured through plagiarism screening and rejection of suspected material. For maximum effectiveness, all articles submitted to this journal shall be sent to a plagiarism detection process prior to submission using Turnitin with a maximum similarity is 20%.
2. Send the manuscript to two reviewers. This journal uses double-blind review system, therefore the author’s identity must be completely removed. The peer review service level agreement is four weeks.
3. Reviewers may subject to change based on the availability and the area of expertise.
